It has been Meta's mission to improve its messaging apps' voice message functionality. Now that Instagram and Messenger have recently been upgraded, WhatsApp's voice messages are receiving a host of upgrades, allowing WhatsApp to catch up with some of the best messaging apps on Android.
In the near future, WhatsApp users will be able to pause their recordings. This can come in handy when sending long voice messages. As a result, you won't have to worry about awkward pauses while you try to think of something to say. In addition, WhatsApp reveals the ability to preview voice messages before sending them, a feature it announced earlier this year.
Another useful feature that's coming to the app is the ability to listen to voice messages while leaving a chat. During a recording, you can listen to other chats while looking through other chats. WhatsApp will even remember where you left off in case you stop listening to a voice message, so you won't have to start over. In case you need to speed things up, you can adjust the speed to 1.5x or 2x.
Moreover, voice recordings now feature a waveform so you will be able to see the progression of your message.
The company Meta reports that users of WhatsApp send an average of 7 billion voice messages each day, so these upgrades are extremely helpful. These features should give users more control over their experience even if they prefer to send voice messages over texts or calls.
"In the coming weeks," iOS and Android users will be able to send voice messages.
