Nokia: Everything You Need to Know About the Company

Nokia: Everything You Need to Know About the Company

Long ago, Nokia was the single biggest smartphone brand in the world, but now it’s been virtually wiped out by the likes of Apple and Samsung. The Finnish company still sells feature phones, but you’re far more likely to have an iPhone or Galaxy device than one bearing the Nokia name. Here’s everything you need to know about Nokia and its place in today’s industry.

The Nokia Story

Formed in 1865, Nokia began as a lumber mill in Finland. In 1967, their rubber boots reached 70% of the world's markets. By 1998, Nokia held 40% of global mobile phone sales and had operations in more than 130 countries. (Forbes) After struggling to compete with companies like Apple and Samsung, they entered into a licensing agreement with Microsoft and sold off all their patents for $7 billion dollars. This was just two years before they announced they would be exiting the mobile phone business entirely. (New York Times) Now that they are back on track, what does Nokia look like? What do they stand for? How did we get here? And where are we going? Let’s take a look at everything you need to know about one of today’s biggest tech companies.

Founded in 1865 by Fredrik Idestam, Nokia started out as a wood pulp mill called Idestam & Co. It went through many name changes throughout its life until settling on Nokia Corporation after merging with Finnish Rubber Works Oy in 1967. At that time, it employed 25 people and boasted 750 million FIM worth of capitalization. The company continued to grow rapidly throughout much of its early life until coming under pressure due to competition during globalization.

What is special about Nokia?

Nokia is one of those brands that stand out. Even if you’re not into smartphones, you know Nokia. The company has been in business for decades, and like any long-time player in an industry, they have some special things going for them. Overcoming Obstacles: Like any large company, Nokia encountered its share of obstacles during its relatively short history as a multinational conglomerate. However, Nokia has overcome these hurdles thanks to its fierce dedication to customer satisfaction and quality products. Because of their commitment to customers, and also because of their strength in product development, Nokia has made it through everything from 9/11 to low demand for feature phones. Always Innovating: Although most people think of smartphones when they hear Nokia today, it wasn’t always that way. In fact, Nokia was actually one of the pioneers behind feature phones—also known as dumbphones—which were all popular before smartphones took over. Because Nokia always knew how important connectivity was to consumers worldwide (and still is), they made sure their products would keep up with what people wanted most—good connections! And now we see them on top again with another innovative smartphone called Lumia 925! It is no wonder why Nokia continues to be successful. There are many reasons why they are such a strong brand today, but at their core, it comes down to their dedication to providing high-quality devices and services for consumers around the world. It's only natural that there's so much buzz surrounding new Nokia products, which makes sense considering how far they've come since first being founded in 1865! Whether you're already familiar with or are just getting started with learning more about Nokia.

Are Nokia phones safe to use?

As with any electronic device, there are some safety concerns that you need to be aware of when it comes to Nokia phones. Although many people feel safe using them, certain health problems can arise if you use your phone in excess. First and foremost, it is a good idea to keep your cell phone out of direct sunlight. The sun emits powerful radiation that could negatively affect your Nokia devices (and your skin!) over time. Always choose a protective case for your device when you aren’t using it and avoid using headphones that leave a wire exposed during extended periods of sun exposure. These simple precautions will help you get the most out of your cell phone without damaging yourself or others around you!

Health risks aside, there are other important things to consider when choosing a cell phone. If you plan on taking your new smartphone with you wherever you go, then wireless service providers should play an important role in determining which model is right for you. Make sure that any potential provider offers reliable reception where you live, work and study before making a purchase. Also, make sure they don’t have hidden fees - like having extra charges if you exceed their data limits - before signing up. Last but not least, try buying your new Nokia through Amazon - because here at Amazon we always strive to offer great products at competitive prices!

Is Nokia better than Samsung?

The one brand name you hear mentioned most often in the cell phone arena is Samsung. The South Korean company is arguable #1 in terms of market share, especially when you consider all smartphones, tablets, and feature phones are considered. But for smartphone-only users (for which I'm defining as anyone with a smartphone that's not also a tablet), does Nokia actually rank higher? Keep reading for some background on both companies and more details on how they stack up against each other.

If you’re looking specifically at smartphones only, then yes—by far. One recent report from Kantar showed Nokia with 12% of U.S. smartphone sales in February 2014—that’s huge compared to just 2% for Samsung during that same period! On top of that, research firm Strategy Analytics shows Nokia getting even more time on U.S. mobile devices than Apple did during Q4 2013; it shows them at 25%, compared to 17% for Apple. Of course, these numbers could certainly change once new iPhones start rolling out soon... but even so, it seems clear now what I thought was true back in 2012: That Microsoft made an excellent decision by choosing Nokia’s Windows Phone operating system over Android or iOS!

Are Nokia phones worth buying?

Owning a smartphone has become a necessity in today’s busy world, with consumers turning to their devices for everything from entertainment to communication. With so many options available, it can be hard for consumers to decide which brand of phone is right for them. A new Nokia phone may be one worth considering. The brand isn’t as popular as it once was and isn’t nearly as well-known or reputable as Apple or Samsung. However, Nokia continues its comeback after being purchased by Microsoft and developing its own mobile operating system. That means that buying a Nokia phone might not be such a bad idea after all. Read on to learn more about what makes these phones worth buying and why they continue gaining popularity among consumers around the world...
